Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram has outlined three key areas of focus for Liverpool, as identified in the Strategic Futures Advisory Panel’s interim report.
The panel, which includes Sir Howard Bernstein and Baroness Judith Blake and has been supported by secretary of state Michael Gove, aims to identify challenges faced by the city and provide solutions to tackle these issues.
Speaking at Insider’s Liverpool Future Ambition breakfast sponsored by Brabners, Tritax Symmetry and Exchange Flags, Rotheram said: “We’ve looked for three strategic priorities. The first is putting an end to stalled projects that have blighted the city centre by rebooting regeneration and development.”
The second priority identified by the panel is “a fundamental reform of how public services are delivered” while the third is “turbocharging the innovation economy to deliver productivity gains”, according to Rotheram.
Insider’s breakfast, which took place at the newly refurbished Horton House at Liverpool’s Exchange Flags, brought together speakers from the council, combined authority, universities and business community to explore the growth opportunities for the city region in the year ahead and beyond.
The first panel discussed the key developments and projects moving Liverpool forward, from Tritax Symmetry’s 2.5 million sq ft industrial scheme, Parkside East to the £5.1m Horizons programme supporting business innovation in the region. The second focused on key growth sectors for Liverpool, including digital and creative, gaming, and health and life sciences.
