The Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) are thrilled to welcome Dr Andrew Levers to our growing team. Andrew is taking on the role of Technical Director with great enthusiasm and brings a great background of knowledge and experience.
Andrew was Technical Director at Survitec Group, a manufacturer of personal survival equipment for usage after ejecting from aircraft or when at sea. He was responsible for design engineering and manufacturing engineering functions including technology and R&D route mapping, management of global engineering services, major aircraft platforms including Eurofighter Typhoon, F-35, F16, F18, F22, Apache for pilot flight equipment, Anti-G protection, ballistic protection equipment and active cooling garments.
Until May 2013, he served as the R&D Integration Manager at Airbus Operations and held a variety of senior technical and strategic positions within Airbus Operations and has led several cutting edge technology development projects, including the implementation of the Creep Age forming process on the Airbus A380 – a project for which he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining in 2004.
More recently, he has been involved in the establishment of a Professorship in Aircraft Systems Installation, a long term academic group at Cranfield University as well as being Project leader for the THERM project co-funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board, which developed methods for scalable modelling of resource energy and waste streams in industrial systems.
Andrew is an active member of the International Scientific Committee on Shot Peening, and Visiting Research Fellow at Cranfield University.
In his role as Technical Director for the VEC, Andrew will play a key role in the Centre’s Senior Management team and provide technical expertise and leadership in developing the VEC’s industrial and research activities, particularly around Industry 4.0 and setting the strategic technical priorities for the Centre.
